The opportunity to exchange a word, to enjoy a joke from Jack, as many called him, never shy of a good word or a kind word even when there was a crowd. A job that he shared behind his counter with his wife Mariella and his son Enzo. La Paluca was also never empty at lunchtime and on Sundays with flea markets.
A business that Jacques Condemi had decided to bring back, in 2021, after more than 30 years of presence on the Grand-rue, to enjoy a well-deserved retirement but on which he did not wish to dwell.
Despite his departure from the center of Arlon, he remained an emblematic figure of the capital to which he remained particularly attached. “Since his retirement, he has left a lasting memory in our town and in the hearts of many citizens” can we read on Facebook where testimonies are pouring in again this Sunday.
Clothes before Paluca
The oldest will also have known him in a completely different type of business. Before being the boss of Paluca, Jacques had run another shop, right next to his snack bar. He had been a clothing salesman and many people from Arlon came through the door of Big Gun’s. The brand was renowned for its designer clothing. “Rest in peace, you who sold me my first jeans”recalls an Arlon resident in turn.
Jacques’ funeral will be celebrated at the Saint-Martin d’Arlon church this Wednesday, December 11 at 10 a.m.
