This agreement will accelerate the implementation of the Department’s 100% cycling plan and the deployment of the Vélo Ile-de-France (VIF) network. The objective is to offer residents sustainable alternatives to private cars and to make cycling accessible and safe for everyone.
In total, Seine-Saint-Denis is crossed by 6 sections of the Vélo Île-de-France network:
– V1 north: from Paris to Ecouen,
– V2 north: from Paris to Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport,
– V3 north: from Paris to PIEX de Villepinte in phase 1, and to Claye-Souilly in phase 2,
– V4 East: from Paris to Marne-la-Vallée Chessy,
– V6 West: from Paris to Cergy-Pontoise via Asnières,
– V20: Large belt
The projects concerned also give pride of place to vegetation to combat heat islands with arrangements adapted to pedestrian traffic. By promoting modal shift towards less polluting modes of transport, these projects also aim to eliminate the “urban cuts” which mark the towns of Seine-Saint-Denis, thus improving the living environment of residents. Since 2017, nearly 100 kilometers of cycle paths have been co-financed by the Île-de-France Region and the Department.
These projects are part of a global approach to the transformation of public space, which takes into account the issues of ecological transition, greening and resilience in the face of climate change, in connection with structuring projects such as the Grand Paris Express, the T1 or the TZen3.
Thanks to this common commitment, the Île-de-France Region and the Department are strengthening their partnership to offer residents sustainable alternatives to individual cars and improve their living environment.
« After the transport revolution, and the legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games which allowed the change of face of several cities in the department, the Île-de-France Region, through this convention, is even more committed to soft and the ecological transition. This unprecedented effort of 50M, in a particularly constrained budgetary context, shows how the Île-de-France Region stands alongside the inhabitants of Seine Saint Denis to help them improve their daily lives. The Île-de-France Region is also at the forefront of investments to build and renovate high schools in the Seine-Saint-Denis department: 3 new high schools have already seen the light of day (Rosa Parks high school in Saint-Denis, Joséphine Baker high school in Pierrefitte, and the international high school in Noisy-le-Grand), a new high school will be built in Romainville, not counting major renovation operations such as at the Cugnot high school in Neuilly-sur-Marne, Voillaume high school in Aulnay-sous-Bois and many others.»
Valérie PécressePresident of the Île-de-France Region
« Thanks to our joint investments, we are accelerating the implementation of cycling infrastructure that is secure and accessible to all, while reinventing our public spaces. The residents will be the first beneficiaries, enjoying a more serene and greener living environment. We are continuing the work in favor of the cycling of departmental roads, efforts recently recognized by the Vélo Ile-de-France collective, the Department is the leader in cycling development in Île-de-France according to the latter. Recognition of our commitment to meeting ecological challenges and offering sustainable mobility solutions for all. »
