Frosty weekend, snow all the way to the plains on Sunday

The sky will become cloudy this Thursday from the west and a first burst of precipitation will reach Switzerland during the night from Thursday to Friday. This will be the start of a turbulent and very wintry period until the beginning of next week with falling temperatures.

On Friday morning, it will initially snow up to 2200 meters, then the limit will drop to 1500 meters. In the afternoon, the weather should be a little drier with clearings on the Plateau. According to MétéoSuisse, in the plains, temperatures will fluctuate between 6 and 10 degrees.

A further deterioration is announced from Saturday. The day will start with a rain-snow limit around 2000 m during the day, with a maximum of 9 degrees in the plains. But at the end of the day, a cold snap will hit our regions and the snow limit will drop to around 600 meters.

On Sunday, we will wake up to real winter weather. MeteoSwiss expects regionally significant falls and accumulations of fresh snow and “most often as far as the plains”. It will not be more than 4 degrees at the best of the day with a feeling of cold reinforced by a nasty breeze which will rise during the afternoon.
