The traders at the Strasbourg Christmas market have chosen to open their chalets to visitors this Wednesday, December 25. A successful operation which attracted many tourists.
Crowded streets, queues in front of the chalets… For the first time in many years, the Strasbourg Christmas market opened on December 25. The operation was a great success in terms of the influx of tourists.
“I was told that it was usually closed, I was a little disappointed (…). And there, great! On every street corner, all the shops, all the people are ready to take part in this event that day… We wanted that for Christmas!”, says Nathalie, who came from Tarbes for the holidays.
Speaking to BFM Alsace, she explains that she “let herself come and go to the chalets and shops” throughout the day.
Operation renewed on December 26
“I didn’t necessarily expect it to be so lively, so that’s good,” assures Malika Ssossé, originally from Gennevilliers (Hauts-de-Seine).
Léa comes from Val-de-Loire. She also didn't think she would be able to take advantage of the Christmas market this Wednesday. “I have already come in other years, and there I find that there are a lot of people,” she notes.
For this Wednesday as for Thursday December 26, also a public holiday in Alsace, the opening of the chalets is voluntary: the traders themselves choose to welcome visitors or to remain closed.
