Out of 108 vehicles checked, 18 violations were noted. A collaboration which underlines the understanding between the two security forces.
An unusual but effective cooperation
Sixteen police officers from the Firminy police station and 19 gendarmes from the Yssingeaux company were mobilized Monday evening for a joint road control operation. This was held at two strategic points connecting the Loire and Haute-Loire: the Pertuiset roundabout in Saint-Paul-en-Cornillon and the La Romière district in Chambon-Feugerolles.
“To say that the police and the gendarmerie do not get along is a fantasy,” recalled Kelly Taurel, squadron leader of the Yssingeaux gendarmerie. “We face the same type of delinquency, and this cooperation is essential, whether it concerns road prevention, the fight against burglaries or narcotics,” added Willy Korovine, police commissioner in Firminy.
108 vehicles checked, 18 violations noted
During this double operation, 108 motorists were checkedwith a record of 12 offenses for lack of driving license, insurance or technical inspection. In addition, six fixed tort fines were issued, notably for traffic offenses and one for possession of a bladed weapon.
According to officials of the two law enforcement agencies, this type of joint action makes it possible to secure border areas between departments, often used for various trafficking or crimes.
Towards an intensification of these actions
Given the success of this collaboration, those responsible are considering increasing this type of operation. “These partnerships, whether in road or rail areas or on board interregional buses, allow a reinforced presence in shared territories,” underlined Kelly Taurel.
These actions are part of a common desire for prevention, but also for deterrence, to respond to delinquency that ignores administrative borders.
