The departmental council is launching the “My clean island” operation from Thursday to Saturday. This event, with a budget of 1.6 million euros, aims to raise public awareness of the problem of waste through cleaning of urban and natural areas.
The Mayotte department is launching “My Clean Island”, a cleaning operation which is to be held from Thursday December 5 to Saturday December 7. “First on Thursday we will have the cleaning of urban areas, Friday the natural areas and then on Saturday the cleaning of remarkable areas, such as rivers.“, specifies Abdoul Kamardine, the departmental councilor of Mtsamboro. “Mayotte has enormous difficulties in terms of waste management, it destroys the tourist image that we want to give to the territory.“
The objective is therefore to fight by raising awareness, “help the population understand that we can no longer afford to throw trash everywhere.“All types of waste, from food to industrial, are affected by this operation. Departmental agents are particularly invited to gather Thursday morning in front of town halls, which will serve as starting points for these cleaning circuits. A budget of 1.6 million euros is planned. “There is a subsidy for Sidevam for the purchase of gloves and tools necessary to carry out this action“, specifies Abdoul Kamardine.
