Don't panic, it's normal. In addition to the monthly test of the warning sirens which will take place this Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the latter will also sound this Thursday, December 5 as part of a civil security exercise organized by the Essonne prefecture.
The FR-Alerte system will be tested
In fact, the Essonne prefecture organizes several exercises of this type each year in order to practice responding quickly to a crisis situation in the department, test the good coordination of all services, and raise people's awareness of the risks and prepare them to adopt the right reflexes in the event of a major crisis.
A civil security exercise will therefore take place this Thursday, December 5, 2024 on the oil site of the CIM companylocated in Grigny. It will make it possible to test the proper functioning of the warning sirens, as well as their audibility among the population present in the sector concerned, namely the towns of Grigny, Draveil, Viry-Châtillon and Ris-Orangis. In addition, this exercise will aim to test the organization and implementation of the Special Intervention Plan (PPI), and the effectiveness of the emergency triggering and intervention systems.
The FR-Alert system will also be tested. People located in one of the four cities mentioned above, will receive an SMS alert on the situation with the recommendations and safety instructions to follow.
“If you are in the affected area and you receive an FR-Alert alert message, don't panic and continue your activities as normal. The message will include the words “EXERCISE” to indicate that this is only a test. Stay calm and do not overload the emergency call lines,” specifies the Essonne prefecture in a press release.
