The Verger school is a public establishment based in Palluau (Vendée). Students from the municipalities of Palluau, La Chapelle-Palluau and Saint-Paul-Mont-Penit study there. Agents from these three municipalities have pooled their efforts to create equipment for the playground.
An obsolete courtyard
The playground is already outdated and the children find it difficult to have fun there. The fault in particular of a cumbersome embankment and to a football field that monopolizes the free surface.
Marcelle Barreteau, mayor of Palluau, launched the project to redevelop this courtyard with the help of Mathilde Guibreteau, then Guillaume Buteau, both members of the municipal council.
50 000 € TTC
The cost of the operation? “ €50,000 including tax. With €38,682 excluding tax to which are added 21 days of management technical services of the three municipalities,” specifies the mayor. Municipal employees from Palluau, La Chapelle and Saint-Paul were asked to work together.
They were guided by Terra Aménité, Frédéric Segretin's company which had provided its employee, Corentin Philippe. This made it possible to reduce costs in creating five pergolas. Among them, there are four of 3 x 3 meters and one of 2 x 5 meters, which will be the extension of the existing modular.
Pooling
In Palluau, the pooling of employees from different municipalities makes it possible to create “sustainable, ecological pergolas without any treatment with endocrine disruptors”, underlines the Terra Aménité team.
The objective is to create games for young and old. We are working for decades to come. The pergolas will be equipped with coconut canvas until climbing plants take over. The canvas degrades naturally.
The wood is recovered and will be worked in the Palluau workshop during the February 2025 holidays. It will be integrated by the company M Paysage among shrub plantations, a wooden fence, then another in rigid panels in July 2025.
The balance sheet
Once the work is carried out, the balance sheet will look significantly for the well-being of children. “The project responds to the issues: renaturing the courtyard to reduce the heat island effect, protecting it from the wind by planting a 45 m linear hedge, enhancing the natural part of the courtyard with wooden bleachers, sleepers landscaped areas of 25 linear m, allow the retention of rainwater and valorize it thanks to the recuperator,” explains Marcelle Barreteau.
Of the basketball hoops will complete the offer. “Children will be able to make the space their own,” warns Frédéric Segretin.
