Chancelade, Coulounieix-Chamiers and now Razac-sur-l’Isle. Wild boars are increasingly taking up residence in the outskirts of Périgueux, where it is very difficult to dislodge them. Residents of Razac are increasingly seeing damage to their crops or gardens. “The wild boars are doing so much damage that soon we won’t even be able to farm anymore.” laments André, a retired farmer. “They destroy all the crops. In our area, they ate three quarters of the corn”. “They invade everything” outbids Jérôme, who lives in the Boussac district. “We see them day and night. Owners are forced to close with high fences to avoid permanent damage to the gardens.”
Limited damage
For the mayor of Razac-sur-l'Isle, the damage is still limited and mainly concerns residents located near forests. But Jean Parvaud does not rule out taking action. “We can first alert the local hunting company which can intervene, but only in certain areas and not at the level of homes since there are distance restrictions for hunting” explains the chosen one. “And subsequently, we can also, following complaints that may be more or less numerous from our citizens, trigger administrative raids with the help of the federation, or even the prefecture.”
