Lhe French motorcycle champion titles do not roam the streets of the Basque Country. Yoan Salaberry, who grew up in Saint-Jean-de-Luz before taking up residence in Ascain, had already caused a sensation during his first year of competition by climbing onto the podium in the 2023 R7 Cup France championship.
A year later, this motorcycle enthusiast, mechanic by profession, managed to win the national title in his category by signing 8 victories out of the 10 races contested. Rather promising, especially since he had the chance to rub shoulders with the big names during the European Super Final played on the Castellet circuit on the occasion of the famous Bol d'Or.
Big progress
Joan Salaberry was already on a motorcycle at the age of 10. A few years later, his father enrolled him in a driving course organized by Serge Nuques, who detected abilities in him and encouraged him to enter competition: “I opted for the R7 Cup France championship, a affordable budget, all riders have the same bike. For my first year, I achieved eight podiums out of ten in my category, which allowed me to be vice-champion with two victories in the final on the Magny-Cours circuit. »
“Facing the world elite, I finished 3rd French driver”
A promising first year that he confirmed this season: “It’s true an exceptional 2024 season in the Yamaha R7 Cup, marked by good performances, 8 victories out of the 10 races, I finished in style in the last round with a success in the scratch classification by beating drivers much more experienced than me. »
The Ascain driver pockets the national title which rewards his consistency and progress made throughout the season. Building on his momentum, he had the chance to participate in the European Super Final at Le Castellet during the Bol d'Or weekend: “A great experience against the world's elite, I finished 3rd French driver. In just a few months, I have already made a dream come true that I didn't think was possible. Now I will turn to new challenges with even greater motivation. » Joan Salaberry has not finished impressing her supporters.
