A macabre discovery. This Saturday, November 30, 2024, around 2:40 p.m., a 36-year-old man, placed in police custody for domestic violence, was found hanged in his cell in Montgeron, a police source told AFP this Sunday.

Contacted, the Évry public prosecutor's office confirmed the “suicide of a person in custody” and specified that an investigation into the causes of death had been opened. The man had been placed in police custody the day before for a case of domestic violencefacts for which he was already on probation, details the police source.

Déjà sentenced for this type of incident, again according to this source, the man continued to threaten and abuse his partner who had filed a complaint. In parallel with the judicial investigation, an administrative investigation will be carried out to determine whether any breaches occurred during this custody.

According to the latest police report, three people died during police custody in 2023 and 10 were injured in the same context.
