Stuck in 30th place in the Vendée Globethis Monday December 2, 2024, the skipper of Plougrescant Guirec Soudée be patient. But he is convinced to “remake” himself as soon as conditions are more favorable to him.
Battling with an irregular wind on Thursday, November 28, he conceded some fatigue. “I don’t understand anything about it. The files don't indicate at all what conditions I have and what's less funny is that the friends in front have gone very far away and I won't be able to find them all immediately.”
The situation should change in the southern seas, guaranteeing a fairly strong and regular wind with the Cape of Good Hope and the Roaring Forties.
I hope to come back to them once I'm past the 40s. We're not progressing at the speed I would have hoped, but we're already on the right track, so that's not bad.
Predicting changes in the ocean
Friday November 29, Guirec Soudée changed hats by providing support to the scientific research, in partnership with Ifremer.
Like 24 other volunteer sailors, he had taken on board a beacon provided by UNESCO and its partners to be deployed during the competition, in this case an Argo profiler float (20 kg, 1.70 m long), which will measure by deriving the temperature and salinity of the sea down to a depth of 2,000 m.
He dropped this beacon – avoiding the rudder! – by making a short video to explain the purpose of the mission.
They asked me if I could dump this in a specific location in the South Atlantic. It will return to the surface and it will send data on the salinity and temperature of the water.
Objective, predict changes in the ocean and their impacts on climate and marine biodiversity.
This buoy was dedicated by the students of the Jacques-Prévert primary school in Brest and the skipper added a “happy birthday” for his daughter Maé, who was celebrating her 3rd birthday.
