A 10% increase in bodily accidents

“We were committed to carrying out this first observation. On departmental roads, since the speed increase, we have had a 10% increase in injury accidents and a 13.6% decrease in deaths, confides Florence Rogeboz. We cannot draw a conclusion one way or the other. This is what was indicated by the departmental security commission. After this first assessment, the commission issued a favorable opinion to maintain this limitation on all the routes concerned.

24 deaths since the 1is January

This first assessment therefore does not take into account the black series that occurred during the months of September and October with ten deaths in five weeks. “We will take this data into account during our next assessment (from August 2024 to August 2025). These accidents also affected national roads. Until August, we had very good results, but we experienced a dramatic period,” explains the vice-president.

On a purely technical level, observations carried out by the department reveal a slight increase in speed following the increase to 90. “Today, we are seeing an increase of 3 km/h. When we had a limit of 80, the average speed was 83 km/h. With a reading of 90, we have an average speed of 86 km/h” At this time, the department deplores 24 deaths on the roads since the start of the year.
