Opposed to Versailles this Saturday, November 30 for the 8th round of the Coupe de France, the Haut-Garonnais club of Union/Saint-Jean (R1) achieved the feat of beating the resident of National 1 and qualifies for the Round of 32 of the competition.
“The Union/Saint-Jean against Versailles, it’s the people against royalty” summarized Daniel Nadalin and Jérôme Sudriez, the two presidents of the Haut-Garonnais club, which played the most important match in its history this Saturday. And the people overthrew royalty, the Regional 1 club brought down the current 10th in National 1 (three divisions apart), qualifying for the 32nd finals for the first time in its history.

In a packed Georges Beney stadium, USJ had a dream start by opening the scoring in the 3rd minute with serial scorer Mathias Capdeville. Disciplined, playful, Grégory Sorroche's team doubled the lead through Rafion, author of a superb half-volley in the 31st minute.

Versailles, perhaps more physically imposing than its opponent but whom Grégory Sorroche's players were able to thwart, reduced the score in the 55th minute of play and pushed at the end of the match. But USJ did not give in and the stadium rejoiced. In the next round, the draw for which will take place this Monday, December 2, Union/Saint-Jean will have to find another stadium to play their match, theirs not being approved.
