The year 2024 was marked by a series of arrests at sea, with 37 boats boarded and a total of fines amounting to 548,500,000 FCFA, according to the Minister of Fisheries.
This amount includes 294,500,000 FCFA for penalties for the year 2023 and 254,500,000 FCFA for those of 2024, signaling reinforced repression against illegal fishing and practices that do not comply with current regulations.

This assessment reveals increased vigilance by maritime authorities, who are facing a complex problem: illegal, undeclared and unregulated (IUU) fishing, which threatens not only maritime resources, but also the local economy and marine ecosystems. In addition, the recurrences recorded among the boardings show that certain operators persist in illegal practices, despite the sanctions already imposed.
