On Wednesday November 27, 2024, the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly voted for an amendment from the Member of Parliament for Deux-Sèvres, Delphine Batho, aimed at prohibiting commercial telephone canvassing. The elected official had tabled this amendment as part of a proposed law on the fight against fraud. On November 14, the Senate also voted unanimously for this ban.

“Extremely intrusive” calls

“This measure, which I have been fighting for for many years, is eagerly awaited by citizens. Extremely intrusive calls disrupt the peace and quiet to which everyone is entitled and constitute a real invasion of privacy by the consumer society. It’s time to put an end to it”comments Delphine Batho.

The MP nevertheless emphasizes that “the battle is not yet won”. His amendment was not unanimous: the committee adopted it against the opinion of the rapporteur. The National Assembly will decide by a vote on December 2.

For at least five years, Delphine Batho has been fighting against this form of harassment against which the Bloctel system, put in place by the State in 2016, has proven to be largely ineffective.
