Honor local players for their commitment to providing very high speed broadband. The second edition of the Fiber Trophies was held on Thursday November 14, 2024 at the André-et-Guy-Boniface stadium, in Mont-de-Marsan. Elected officials from the municipalities and communities of municipalities in the department came in large numbers to attend this ceremony organized by the Departmental Mixed Union of Communes of Landes (Sydec) and Pixl by Altitude Infra.

Arnaud Van Troeyen, Managing Director of Altitude Infra, Laurent Civel, Managing Director of Sydec, and Xavier Terraube, Director of Greater South West Networks at Copper, recalled the need for this digital transition towards “all fiber”. Since the launch of this major project, more than 215,000 sockets and 340 million euros have been invested in the department to allow the people of Landes to have access to this technology.

Soon the end of copper

After the presentation of the trophies to the various winners (read elsewhere), a conference on the decommissioning of copper took place. Xavier Terraube returned to the implementation of a “commercial then technical closure” of this network by 2030. These closures will take place gradually in batches of municipalities throughout the national territory.

“It is important to prepare for this migration. We must not wait until the last minute to avoid creating a bottleneck,” continues Arnaud Van Troeyen.

In certain municipalities, complex connections impact the transition to fiber, even if they only represent 5% of cases. However, it will be necessary to find 35 million euros for 6,000 shots.

“For the year 2025, we have identified 300 overdue sockets,” explains Laurent Civel. The general director of Sydec reaffirmed his position on the fact that “no one will be left behind in this digital Wild West”. In conclusion, Xavier Terraube indicated that he wanted to work “hand in hand” with elected officials to coordinate these connections.
