A tragedy that occurred in June 2024 in Neauphe-sous-Essai (Orne) led to the conviction, this Thursday, November 28, of a young 21-year-old driver. He received four years in prison, two of which were suspended, for causing a fatal accident under the influence of alcohol and at excessive speed.
Two young victims in tragic accident
According to France Bleu, the accident occurred on the night of June 15 to 16, 2024on a four-lane road linking Alençon to Sées. The driver, still on his probationary license period, was driving at 110 km/hwell beyond 80 km/h authorized in his case. Under the influence of alcohol, with a rate of 0.68 g per liter of bloodhe lost control of his vehicle on a bend, hitting the concrete barriers.
In the car, six young people were returning from an evening in a bar in Alençon. The shock was fatal for two passengers: a young woman 19 ans and a young man 22 answho died instantly. The other four occupants, including the driver, survived with minor injuries.
A conviction for homicide and involuntary injury
Present at the bar of the Alençon criminal court, the young man was prosecuted for homicides and unintentional injuries. Aged only 21, he bore responsibility for this tragedy. The prosecution had requested a sentence of five years in prison, three of which are suspended.
The court ultimately opted for a sentence of four years' imprisonment, two of which were suspended. In addition to this conviction, the young man's driving license was canceled, with a ban on retaking it before three years.
