The Lyon start-up Carbon will ultimately not take over Photowatt

Photowatt will ultimately not go under the Carbon colors. The start-up tells Bleu Isère that it is abandoning its takeover offer because “the conditions necessary for the success of this project could not be met”confirming information from the newspaper Les Echos.

This young company made itself known at the beginning of September, by offering to take over the photovoltaic panel factory installed in Bourgoin-Jallieu. If Carbon claims to have built “a coherent and solid project to take over the site and develop the activity with the confidence of EDF Renewable” for the Berjallian company, their candidacy for takeover had triggered strong opposition among the 170 employees.

Technical constraints

They particularly feared that Carbon would not be financially strong enough to relaunch Photowatt and suspected EDF of wanting to disguise the closure of the company. Indeed, the unions have been pointing the finger for several years EDF's lack of investment in the company.

According to our information, the hostility of employees to a takeover by Carbon is not unrelated to the abandonment of the project, but it is not the main reason. Technical constraints on the building caused the start-up's project to fall too far behind schedule.
