Their children are educated within the Intercommunal Educational Group bringing together the municipalities of the The subject, Francarville, Loubens-Lauragais et Vendinein Haute-Garonne. And they are worried about the health consequences of the upcoming arrival, as part of the construction site of the A69 motorway between Castres and Toulouse, of a hot mix production plant in the neighboring town of Villeneuve-lès-Lavaur, in Tarn. Members of the collective RPI without bitumenthese residents announce a new mobilization this Sunday 1is December at 10:30 a.m., in the town of Vendine, to express their opposition to this installation.
“This event occurs symbolically almost one year to the day after the first gathering proposed by the collective, the big family march on November 26, 2023 in Vendine. A year has passed and parents are still very worried about seeing this toxic discharge factorywithout any reassuring measure being offered to them,” explains the collective to justify this action.
Human chain at the border between Tarn and Haute-Garonne
If the meeting is set in front of the Vendine school, the demonstrators will reach the border between the departments of Tarn and Haute-Garonne to organize a symbolic action: parents, children and residents will form a human chain.
The mayors of the RPI municipalities were recently excluded from the Surveillance Plan initiated by DREAL 81, on the grounds that the factory must be located in the Tarn department. Through this symbolic and family action, the collective wants to show that the RPI schools, although located in Haute-Garonne, are also concerned by the risks linked to this factory and that consequently the town halls of their communes must be associated with the prevention of these risks, which is not the case to date.
The organizers of this gathering assure that this demonstration will take place with the support of 11 other Sans Bitume collectives which have emerged in recent months along the route of the future A69 motorway.
When will this bitumen plant be commissioned?
Wednesday November 20, when giving an update on the progress of the construction site to the press, the concessionaire announced that the commissioning of the Villeneuve-lès-Lavaur and Puylaurens asphalt plants would take place between March and April 2025.
“We are already working on the layout of the structures and the supply of materials for the two power plants. In fact, these are several hundred thousand tons of stones which will go into the roadso we manage this supply on our platforms at the same time as the installation of the power plants,” Atosca informed.
Health bomb or controlled risks?
For RPI members without bitumen, the operation of these two asphalt plants will impact to different degrees a total of 40 schools, six establishments early childhood et two colleges. “The collective also supports farmers, breeders, places where seniors live and all people living or working near these health bombs,” they emphasize.
Atosca assures that all risks linked to these installations are “controlled”. The A69 concessionaire has also made a commitment toinstall a sensor in the school closest to each power station in order to measure emissions released into the air and ensure that they do not exceed regulatory pollution thresholds.
