Rodents are everywhere, it's a fact. Pest control campaigns are regularly carried out by municipalities and the SQY agglomeration to stem this scourge (read our edition of January 31, 2023). An Élancourtoise, named Zohra, experienced a scene that she could have done without.
Pests seen in different SQY cities
While she was shopping on Saturday, November 16, at the Auchan supermarket in Maurepas, she had the unpleasant surprise of discovering when she returned to her car that rats had eaten the interior of it, while her vehicle was simply parked in the shopping center parking lot.
“I was in the parking lot of the Auchan supermarket in Maurepas last Saturday. I had just done the shopping, I wanted to put them in my trunk and, when I opened it, I saw pieces of yellow foam everywhere, says the motorist, who started looking for it. provenance. It was by removing the rear parcel shelf that I saw the hole. The leather, the foam… everything was torn off,” this resident lamented to our colleagues at Le Parisien, in an article dating from November 19.
This retiree is angry because her car, which was heavily damaged by rodents (a recent Nissan Micra with only 40,000 km on the clock), will not receive any compensation from her car insurance. And this even if it is fully insured. “There is a clause mentioning that damage caused by pests is not covered,” regrets Zohra, in the columns of the media l’Indépendant. “I'm nervous that my car was eaten like that by rats,” she laments.
These pests are present everywhere in SQY, as many Saint-Quentinois testify on social networks. Including in the Sept-Mares district, in Élancourt, in the underground car park of the town hall, where Zohra parks her car. “My neighbor who parks her car in the same place as me, in the underground parking lot of the town hall, had a hose in her engine literally eaten away,” mentions l’Élancourtoise.
Other residents of the neighborhood told Le Parisien that the situation is not new. “Ooh, it’s buzzing in the evening. They walk in the town hall parking lot, between the thickets and the trash cans,” said a resident.
A problem known and taken very seriously by the Agglomeration, which is already carrying out rodent control campaigns in public spaces in various municipalities in SQY. The town hall of Élancourt also. In the past, she has ordered rodent control actions in some of her residences. The municipality specified that “the rat problem has been identified. In reality, it is linked to a public health problem”, also involving “the recent floods, which bring rodents to the surface”, specify our colleagues.

However, the municipality invites its citizens not to leave food lying around to avoid attracting pests. “Between the pizza boxes, the kibble intended for stray cats, the bread left for the pigeons… As long as there is food on the ground, there will be rats. Eradicating them is everyone's business, residents and traders alike! », Encourages the City.
