This Monday, the court (Maine-et-) judged a young woman responsible for the fire in a building. In 2022, staying with friends, the latter had in fact attempted suicide by immolating herself in the apartment, report our colleagues from West . The fire then spread to nearby homes. The accused has been under psychiatric care since the age of seven.

The young woman, now 25 years old, was welcomed by two roommates, who did not want to see her sleep outside. They knew about his placement under reinforced guardianship, his fragility and his suicidal desires which they witnessed. She has also already fled the accommodation several times. On the day of the incident, the tenant therefore decided to lock him up while she left for a driving lesson.

Socio-judicial monitoring over five years

Alone in the apartment, and in crisis, dark thoughts race through her head. She chooses fire to end her suffering. The police managed to save her, but the fire spread throughout the building. The police later learned that despite their rescue, the young woman was hospitalized in the burn unit after having managed to set herself on fire a second time.

The court is faced with a very vulnerable person. Expertise defines her as borderline, but without mental illness. The public prosecutor thus requested socio-judicial monitoring. The defendant will have to undergo compulsory treatment over a period of five years.
