This Tuesday, November 26, France 2 will reveal from 9:10 p.m. the last journey of Raphaël de Casabianca in Meet in unknown land. For the occasion, he takes actor Tomer Sisley to Nepal. About this trip, the actor told us: “I am quite adaptable. I rather like it, it's typically the kind of adventure that I love. But it was hard.” And to continue about the altitude which forced travelers to climb the plains of the Himalayas in increments of 500 meters: “At first, I felt the altitude, I had a headache and the nights were very short. I have a photo of myself first thing in the morning with my head completely deformed. But what joy, it’s so much better when it’s not easy!” For his part, the host of France Télévisions spoke to our colleagues from Le Parisien. Already last June, he explained his choice to leave the program as follows: “I also find it increasingly difficult to land and return to normal life after each trip, which has consequences for me but also for those around me. We do not emerge from these experiences unscathed”.
The trip of Raphaël de Casabianca and Tomer Sisley dates back to 2022
Since this announcement, Raphaël de Casabianca has wanted to remain rather discreet but has agreed to come out of his silence to speak with our colleagues once again. The episode broadcast this evening is actually not the last one he has filmed, as he clarified: “En reality, it wasn't the last one I shot”. The two men's trip dates back to 2022: “We even filmed the sets back a year and a half ago. It’s the magic of television, I’m going to become younger for an evening!”. On his decision to leave the program, the host admits that his feelings happened gradually. “It’s a fatigue, both physical and psychological, which came little by little,” he admitted to Le Parisien
Intense filming conditions
Then continue: “Departures are really complicated. The more we filmed, the more I knew that I would not see the people we met again. And I found it more and more difficult to get back into normal life between each shoot. It became difficult for me, for my family and those around me I needed to relax a little, to breathe and get back to a normal rhythm and I didn't want to travel too much.. Raphaël de Casabianca also encountered health problems when returning from one of his trips… “I contracted leishmaniasis (a parasitic disease which causes skin lesions) after my return from Ethiopia (with the singer Vianney). But generally speaking, on the last shoots, I had to adapt to an altitude of 5,000 m, lived in -30 degree zones… It's intense”, he pointed out.
