A second solidarity restaurant, dedicated to seniors, is taking place in our city. Every Wednesday, balanced meals are offered at low prices. Entertainment is also on the program…

In November 2023, Happinessa solidarity restaurant for our isolated or non-taxable seniors, has set up shop at Espace Magnan. Given its success, a new structure is opening its doors near the Saint-Jean d’Angély residence.

“It’s a place to meet up, to spend a friendly time but also to break the isolation” explains Jennifer Salles Barbosa, deputy mayor responsible for seniors and solidarity. In a context of inflation, The Pignata gives access to meals, including starter, main course and dessert, at a price of three euros.

52 place settings

On the Magnan side, Happiness is accessible every day of the week, except Wednesday. Day when The Pignata is now taking over. Set up by the City of Nice, this place can accommodate up to 52 guests.

Seniors living in the Saint-Jean d’Angély independent living residence can therefore come and spend a good time there. Those from outside are also welcome. “It is important to ensure that there is this diversity” continues Jennifer Salles Barbosa. “The goal is really to have solidarity that takes place between the people of the neighborhood and the residents.”

“During the summer, families go on vacation… It’s normal, but often, our seniors find themselves a little alone. Here, they will be able to share a moment.” Activities are offered throughout the afternoon. The system is being tested until the end of December.

“For those who have a very small pension, it’s wonderful”

This Wednesday, June 26, on the menu: royal pizza, perrugines in sauce with young carrots and cooked lentils, cheese and of course… dessert! In a warm atmosphere, with music.

Louise : “It’s nice, we eat very well. The restaurant is quite big and the welcome is great. I already go to Espace Magnan on Mondays. From now on, I’ll come here on Wednesdays!“. Another aspect that pleases this Niçoise, “It’s conviviality. We need it.”.

At a table a little further away, Maryline is waiting for her starter. “This place is magnificent, there is even a large terrace with a view of the garden. It’s great. When you’re alone, it allows you to get to know each other… and you keep in touch. Elsewhere, with three euros, you don’t even have a piece of bread. For those who, like me, have a very small pension, it’s wonderful.”

Please note that to access it you must have the 55+ pass. Registration is done at the Nice Municipal Office for Seniors at 19 rue Gioffredo.
