LR MEP Nadine Morano will vote for the miscellaneous left Dominique Potier in the 5th constituency of Meurthe-et-Moselle on Sunday because she refuses to give her vote to Louis-Joseph Pecher, accused of anti-Semitism, she explained to AFP on Thursday.

“I think that an anti-Semitic candidate should not receive my support,” declared the former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy, marked on the right, confirming information from the Republican Lorraine. She explained that she was “voting against” Louis-Joseph Pecher and therefore for the outgoing left-wing MP Dominique Potier. A socialist, Dominique Potier “is a political opponent, but he is not anti-Semitic, is not a candidate for the Popular Front, does not sit on the Nupes and he has acknowledged that Hamas is a terrorist organisation”, highlighted Nadine Morano. While she indicated that she would vote for him, she nevertheless specified that she was not giving any voting instructions.

“Election tourism”

“I am not calling for a vote for a candidate,” she stressed, in line with the position of LR, which does not give voting instructions. The National Rally and Éric Ciotti, who are in alliance for the legislative elections, withdrew their support for Louis-Joseph Pecher on June 19.

“Several accounts on social networks, used under pseudonyms attributed to him, contain anti-Semitic, homophobic and filthy remarks,” explained Éric Ciotti. Louis-Joseph Pecher, however, still claims the label “On the right – Friends of Éric Ciotti”. “This gentleman is involved in electoral fraud” and “electoral tourism” castigated Nadine Morano, denouncing his lack of local roots. In the first round, Louis-Joseph Pecher obtained 30.45% of the vote, compared to 43.47% for Dominique Potier.
