The Quebec Solidaire MP announced last Wednesday that he was taking “a few days” of leave after a particularly difficult week for him during which the National Assembly condemned his comments.
Tuesday, co-spokeswoman Ruba Ghazal confirmed on Patrick Masbourian’s microphone that her colleague will not be back in Quebec this week. “After the very trying week he experienced last week […] he will be absent [cette semaine] in the National Assembly, so we will let him rest a little. It’s completely understandable and it’s normal,” explained M.me Gazhal to Quite a morning.
The solidarity leader clarified that the situation will be evaluated every week and therefore, she affirmed that she did not know if Mr. Bouazzi would return to the National Assembly between now and the holiday break. At Québec solidaire, we explain that it would be surprising if the MP returned by December 6.
However, the decision will be up to him, said Mme Ghazal Tuesday. She once again assured that the solidarity caucus remains “united” through this controversy. The co-spokesperson did not directly answer the question as to whether Mr. Bouazzi will be welcome upon his return, reaffirming that the events of last week were “a very, very difficult moment” for Québec solidaire.
“We have to show empathy, it’s not easy what he went through humanly last week. I don’t want to start speculating about what’s going to happen next week […] we would like to move on, we will take it one day at a time,” she told -.
Mr. Bouazzi affirmed during a gala in November that he observed “every day the construction of this Other”, whether North African, Muslim, black and indigenous, and whose culture “would be dangerous and inferior” . The main person concerned added a layer in an interview to All one morning targeting ministers Christian Dubé and Lionel Carmant.
Last Tuesday, Mr. Bouazzi apologized to the two members of the government on the X network, speaking of an “awkwardness”. This outing came after an extraordinary meeting of his caucus. Colleagues reportedly expressed their frustration to him. The scenario of a suspension would have been mentioned. Without an escape, he would have agreed to put water in his wine.
However, for some, the bond of trust is weakened, or even broken.
The same day, the National Assembly spoke with one voice to condemn the comments of the member for Maurice-Richard, who listened without flinching to the grievances of his colleagues.
