The drop is slight, but definitely present. In its activity barometer published on November 8, 2024, the Landes Tourism Observatory highlighted the decline in tourist numbers from French (- 1.3%) and foreign (- 13.3%) customers during the All Saints' Day holidays, compared to the 2023 financial year.
In detail, the interior of the department was shunned by the French public (- 4.8%) and foreigners (- 12.5%). The coastline, for its part, benefited from the interest of tourists from France (+ 1.7%), but not from that of vacationers from elsewhere in the world (- 12.7%). Customers from the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (+10%), Paris (+9%) and Gironde (+6%) are the most represented, despite a general downward trend.
Survey
To get an idea of satisfaction in the profession, Landes Attractiveness carried out a survey of 354 professionals between October 31 and November 5. And the results are mixed. Only one in two professionals say they are “satisfied with attendance in October”. Bed and breakfasts and hotels are the most affected, while visiting sites and sports and leisure activities have managed to do well.
In the interior area, 65% of professionals are not satisfied with this attendance. The gloom reached 100% for campsites and 86% for hotels. With an occupancy rate of 26% – four points below the departmental average – 70% of members of the hotel industry in this area believe that this figure is “significantly decreasing”.
As the end-of-year holidays approach, the outlook is, for the moment, pessimistic for the accommodation sectors. Only 18% of hotels and 8% of furnished tourist accommodation have a higher level of reservations than last year.
