In Ivory Coast, a new gold deposit has been discovered in the northwest of the country. A discovery welcomed by President Alassane Ouattara.

Ivory Coast announced on Wednesday, November 27, the discovery of a new world-class gold deposit in Tanda, in the northeast of the country. This announcement was made by the CEO of the Canadian mining group Endeavor Mining, Ian Cockerill, during a press conference in Abidjan.

Indeed, the new deposit, located around 350 km from Yamoussoukro, is estimated to produce around 150 tonnes of gold. Mining of this site is expected to begin in 2025 and is expected to generate approximately 11 tonnes of gold per year. This project promises to create nearly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a significant economic boost to the region.

Economic benefits

This discovery comes at a crucial time for the Ivorian economy, which has seen its gold production grow impressively in recent years. In 2023, Ivory Coast produced nearly 55 tonnes of gold, and this new discovery is expected to further strengthen its leading position in the mining sector in West Africa.

“These new discoveries give visibility to Côte d’Ivoire and will attract other investors,” rejoiced President Alassane Ouattara.
