Thirty second-year S5 students from Édouard-Vaillant high school in Vierzon took part in a charity race on Tuesday afternoon, May 28, with the aim of raising funds for the Rugby Leukodystrophy association.

Each student, equipped with a bib, completed as many 2-kilometer loops as possible on the banks of the Berry Canal for an hour, according to their abilities.

The slogan: “Together, we go further!”

“Alone, we go faster. Together we go further!” was the slogan. They were thus able to raise funds for the association, thanks to the “sponsors”, donors they had approached in advance and who committed to paying a certain amount per lap completed, as well as with a cake sale.

The funds raised amount to 770 euros. They will be used to purchase occupational therapy balls, which will be distributed in hospitals and APFs in France, but also to improve the announcement of the diagnosis to parents and to help with the psychological monitoring of families. The sum will also be used to cover occupational therapy care, psychomotor skills and screening for the disease during pregnancy.

The president of the association, Aurélien Pinto, warmly thanked the students. The young people, whether they were athletes or not, all enjoyed running for a good cause and all played the game. “I never usually run, but doing it for an association really motivated me and pushed me to surpass myself,” confided one of the high school students. “It also allowed me to discover that I liked running. It was a great experience and I would be ready to do it every day!”

This action was led by Carine Graullier, physics-chemistry teacher and main teacher of the class, and by Céline Pfister, PE teacher. This challenge will certainly be repeated in 2025.
