Impaired driving: school bus driver arrested

A school bus driver responsible for transporting disabled students was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol while picking up children.

The Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) confirms having arrested the man in question Friday afternoon. He is expected to appear at the Quebec courthouse within the next three months.

According to our sources, it was the staff at the Madeleine-Bergeron school who had suspicions about the man’s driving abilities when he arrived at the school and who contacted the authorities.

The SPVQ emphasizes that no person was injured in this case and that there were no children on board the route #162 bus at the time of the arrest.

“This driver is now no longer authorized to drive a school bus from our school service center (CSS) again,” said the CSS de la Capitale in a letter sent to the parents of the children affected by the journey.

Another driver has been assigned to take the children back to school since Monday morning.

Asked to react, the organization however did not wish to comment on the situation. For its part, the driver’s employer, Autobus La Québécoise, did not respond to our interview requests.

According to our information, this would be a first offense of its kind on the part of the bus driver involved in this story.
