The people of Noizé know this painting, recently restored, which hangs in the Saint-Prix church. It was until then considered a work of the 17e century and listed as such. But a small discovery has just changed its attribution.

The site of The gallerywho had doubts, published a photo of the work a few days ago, hoping to get one of his readers to react. A successful bet, because Jean-Pierre Cuzin, former director of the paintings department of the Louvre Museum, immediately identified the work as being by François-André Vincent, produced in the second half of the 18e century.

Prix ​​de Rome, member of the Royal Academy of Painting, professor at the School of Fine Arts, François-André Vincent enjoyed success during his lifetime, rivaling Jacques-Louis David, before falling into oblivion. Today, we are rediscovering him, and he was the subject of an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in in 2013-2014, entitled “François-André Vincent, an artist between Fragonard and David”, an exhibition produced precisely thanks to the tenacity of Jean-Pierre Cuzin.
