Several hours after the opening of the free agent market, the Edmonton Oilers went looking for reinforcements in attack by obtaining the services of forward Jeff Skinner for one year and three million dollars.

Skinner, who was bought out by the Buffalo Sabres earlier this week, had 24 goals and 46 points in 74 games with Buffalo last season.

The man who recently passed the 1000 career game mark will therefore be on a third team, after the Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo.

The seventh overall pick in the 2010 draft, Skinner has 670 points in 1,006 career games.

Arvidsson s’ajoute aux Oilers

Minutes after free agency opened, the Oilers also reached an agreement with 31-year-old forward Viktor Arvidsson.

Our TSN colleague Pierre LeBrun confirmed that the two-year deal would earn him an annual average of $4 million.

Arvidsson spent the last three seasons in Los Angeles with the Kings, and he has six goals and 15 points in just 18 games in 2023-24.

A fourth-round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2014, Arvidsson has 179 goals and 362 points in 546 games in the Bettman circuit.

Connor Brown lives in Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers also announced their intention to keep most of the pieces that participated in last season in Alberta. They began the work Monday morning by signing forward Connor Brown to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Despite a lackluster regular season showing, where he was limited to four goals and eight assists in 71 games, Brown made his mark in the playoffs, where he collected six points, including two important goals, in 19 games.

The 30-year-old veteran was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012 with the 156th overall pick.

The Oilers added another Brown to their roster with the signing of defenseman Josh Brown. The 6’5”, 220-pound defensive colossus agreed to a three-year deal with an annual salary of $1 million. The Ontario native spent the last two seasons in the uniform of the now-defunct Arizona Coyotes.

Perry stays with the team

The Oilers also signed veteran Corey Perry for next season. The deal will pay him $1.4 million.

Since joining the team, Perry has eight goals and 13 points in 38 regular season games.

He also added three points in 19 playoff games.

Sam Carrick joins Rangers

If Brown convinces the Oilers to keep him in Edmonton, forward Sam Carrick will continue his career with the New York Rangers.

His new deal will earn him $1 million per season for a period of three years.

Carrick was acquired along with Adam Henrique in March in a trade with the Oilers.

At 32, Carrick played 77 regular-season games last year, recording 10 goals and 16 points. He also played 10 games during the Oilers’ playoff run.

Delia is coming to Edmonton

The Oilers have signed goaltender Colin Delia to a one-year, $775,000 contract.

Delia will be the third goalkeeper in the team behind Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

The 30-year-old American played with the Manitoba Moose last season, posting an 11-19-1 record.

After Sam Carrick, here is Connor Carrick

The Oilers added another Carrick after Sam left, although the two are unrelated.

Connor Carrick, who has agreed to a two-part season, will pocket $775,000 if he plays in the NHL.

Carrick had one assist in one NHL game last year.
