The explosion of a mailbox took place around 4:15 p.m., on Chemin de la Petit-Boissière in the City of Geneva. A large police force was deployed due to suspicion of a parcel bomb. The area is cordoned off.
The police confirm that an “operation is underway”. According to our information, a young teenage girl of around twelve years old was seriously injured after the explosion of a mailbox on Chemin de la Petite-Boissière.
At 7 p.m., law enforcement estimates that tenants will have to wait approximately three hours before returning to their accommodation. The Le Corbusier school was open for the evening while waiting for calm to return. Meals and rest area are available. Traffic is disrupted in the area and residents are asked to stay at home and not touch their mailboxes.
Second explosion after Saint-Jean
If the circumstances of the explosion on Monday afternoon still remain unclear, the incident is reminiscent of the Saint-Jean trash bomb left on the doorstep of a home in August of this year. The detonation injured the tenant.
As expected when it comes to explosive devices, the Public Prosecutor's Office is in charge of the operation and will certainly transmit the file to its counterpart in the Confederation.
