Qualified for the second round of the legislative elections in the 1st constituency of Val-de-Marne, the outgoing deputy Frédéric Descrozaille (Renaissance) announced his withdrawal this Monday, July 1. Three other candidates remain in the running.

Frédéric Descrozaille has withdrawn from the second round of the legislative elections. The outgoing deputy Renaissance, elected in the 1st constituency of Val-de-Marne since 2017, only came 3rd in this election with 18.57% of the vote.

Lyes Louffok, candidate of the New Popular Front is in a favorable vote with 33.03%, followed by Sylvain Berrios, LR mayor of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, supported by Horizons (27.97% of the votes). The RN candidate, Anne-Gaëlle Sabourin, also qualified by obtaining 18.36% of the votes.

A hug and a renunciation

The campaign was tense between the two centre-right candidates, but on Sunday evening, Frédéric Descrozaille made his withdrawal official in favour of Sylvain Berrios, reports Le Parisien. The two men even hugged each other on the forecourt of the Saint-Maur-des-Fossés town hall.

This Monday, July 1, at midday, the ex-MP published a press release on X (formerly Twitter) to explain his renunciation.

“This exceptional level of participation gave access to a four-way race, in which an RN candidate, an NFP-LFI candidate and two candidates from the centre would have faced off. Coming in far behind Sylvain Berrios, I chose not to maintain my candidacy in order not to divide voters with sensibilities close to the centre, and not to run the risk of the constituency tipping into an extremism that does not resemble it,” he justifies.

71.46% of voters in this constituency voted in the first round compared to 50.55% in 2022.
