At 78 years old, Cher has never held her tongue in her pocket, and she has never hesitated to discuss her sexuality in an uninhibited manner. This is also the case in her new autobiography, “Cher: The Memoir, Part One.” In this work, of which the American site People reveals extracts, the singer explains how she lost her virginity out of “despite”, after a disappointment in love.
A desire to take revenge on her boyfriend
In her book, Cher describes being particularly upset to be left by her boyfriend at the time, when she was 14 years old. “I was so hurt when he did that that I slept with him out of revenge. I never wanted to sleep with him before,” she explains.
If the concept may seem surprising, for the singer, it was real revenge, since until now she had always refused to sleep with the young man: “If I had wanted, I would have done one of the 500 times he asked me.” But his goal was to make him suffer as he had made her suffer: “At the end, I asked him: 'Is that all? Are we done?”, and I told him to go home, and never come back. I was so upset about being dumped that I decided, not to lose my virginity, but to lend it to him .” She also specifies that she found the experience “particularly overrated.” “I just wanted him to feel the way I felt, I never spoke to him again.”
A discussion with his mother about virginity
In her memoirs, Cher also states that she had a conversation with her mother before losing her virginity. “My mom warned me that the minute I lost my virginity she would know because she would see it in my eyes, so after I had sex with this guy I ran to the mirror to check.”
Unsurprisingly, the singer did not notice the slightest change, quite the contrary. “I half expected to see the word SEX flashing in fluorescent letters on my forehead, but I didn't notice anything different, and neither did she,” she concludes with humor.
