The endless series of endangered buildings on rue de Bourgogne in Orléans (Loiret) should finally come to an end, two and a half years after its startin January 2022, when cracks formed on number 21.

After an inspection of the site, its occupants were evacuated, as were those of neighbouring buildings. security perimeter had been implemented in the sector.

After several months of studies, it was decided to demolish numbers 17, 19 and 21. A long battle with the insurers was necessary so that the court decision of February 2, 2024 and the signing in April of the memorandum of understanding by all stakeholders, led to the issuing demolition permits.

A return to housing hoped for by the end of the year

“All precautionary measures have been taken to protect the surrounding buildings,” said the Orleans town hall.

The work can therefore begin this Monday July 1stwith first the installation of a device for protecting and recycling the water that will be misted during the demolition of the buildings. In the process, the machines will begin the deconstruction of the buildings.

“The work, which will last around three months, will impact the life of the neighborhood but will allow,

The return of residents to their homes is hoped around next Christmas.

At the same time, Orléans Métropole and the concessionaires will inspect and rehabilitate the water, sanitation, gas, electricity and telecom networks, as well as the basement of the disaster area.

A return to normal is expected for the end of 2025.

A public meeting will be organized at the start of the next school year to provide an update on the progress of the work.
