in the west of Paris, the war of the rights and the presidential majority in the second round

LThe war of the right rages in the West of Paris. On the occasion of the first round of the early legislative elections, in 4e district of Paris, which extends over part of the 17e et 16e districts of Paris, outgoing MP Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet (Renaissance) won 37.19% of the votes this Sunday. Without too much surprise, she thus qualifies for the second round, but will face, on Sunday July 7, a strong opponent: the LR candidate Geoffroy Boulard, mayor of 17e district, which received 26.55% of the votes. The equation will be all the more complex as it will be triangular: unless there is a withdrawal, the two candidates will face in the second round the candidate of the New Popular Front Théa Fourdrinier, who received 17.9%. votes in the first round.

READ ALSO The results of the first round, constituency by constituency In the 14e constituency of Paris, which includes the rest of the 16e arrondissement, the outgoing deputy and spokesperson for Renaissance Benjamin Haddad collected 47.71% of the votes. Without any difficulty, he thus goes to the second round but, once again, in a three-way configuration: he will indeed face next Sunday the candidates of the Republicans (LR) Patrick Dray (17.7%) and the National Rally (RN) Louis Piquet (17.56%).

Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet’s seat in danger

In these two constituencies, the right and the outgoing presidential majority have engaged in a real fratricidal war. In the 14e constituency of Paris, the right was represented by candidates from LR and RN therefore but also from Reconquête!. In addition, Benjamin Haddad, today champion of Renaissance and its allies, himself comes from the right – he was national secretary of the UMP from 2011 to 2014.

Facing them, in this historically right-wing constituency, the left-wing candidate, the Insoumis Hugo Rota, had very little chance of qualifying for the second round. He received 13.93% of the votes this Sunday.

In the 4e constituency, three right-wing and far-right candidates faced off in addition to Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet, a former socialist municipal representative (Strauss-Kahnian tendency) who then advised Emmanuel Macron at Bercy in 2014-2016. And her seat as outgoing MP could even be endangered by Geoffroy Boulard, quite popular in this constituency. “It would be simpler if Boulard was not a candidate,” whispered a Macronist activist at the Point a few days before the first round.
