Even if the figures for the 2024 collection of the Food Bank are not yet known, the solidarity observed by the Aude associations is still as important. Indeed, as reported The Dispatchthis weekend, many volunteers mobilized for the annual harvest.
Whether they are part of the Red Cross, Secours Populaire or the Action Solidaire association, volunteers were placed in front of the entrances to several supermarkets in Aude on Friday and Saturday. Questioned by our colleagues, they noticed that many donations came from people themselves in difficulty.
Mutual aid still present despite a complicated economic context
Furthermore, a slight decrease was noted compared to collections in previous years. Donors, most of them supermarket customers, who fill the associations' shopping carts with their own commissions, are also facing the crisis. People are giving, but in smaller amounts.
A member of Secours Catholique had the pleasure of seeing the impressive donation of a dozen products from a single customer in one day. The Food Bank wanted to remind people that every gesture was important during these collections, in a context where the number of people in precarious situations continues to grow.
