Mohamed Laquila, outgoing Modem MP for the 11th constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône, came 3rd in the poll. He announced his withdrawal from the election on Monday 1 July.

There will be no three-way race in the 11th constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône. The outgoing MP, Mohamed Laquila (Modem), finished 3rd in the election with 26.28% of the vote, far behind Hervé Fabre-Aubrespy of the RN (38.87%) but a few hundred votes behind Marc Pena (NFP) and his 27.54%.

Although qualified for the second round, Mohamed Laquila announced this Monday, July 1, in a press release his withdrawal from the election.

A reluctant decision

However this Sunday evening, after the proclamation of the results, Mohamed Laquila believed he had reserves of votes unlike his opponent from the Union of the Left. “I represent 30.34% of the votes, or 3 points more than Marc Pena in the first round,” he assured, winning the 4.06% of the LR candidate, Fayçal Zeguine reports La Provence.

Marc Pena called for this withdrawal on France 3. “I have known him for a very long time, I know that he was born in Morocco, that he is the son of a mason who built himself through the Republic, I cannot imagine that he could make any other choice than to withdraw to allow a Republican and Democratic candidate to access the deputation and above all to block and beat the RN”.

Mohamed Laquila finally reluctantly agreed to step down. “Despite my appeal through the press and by telephone to Marc Pena, he persists in his desire to maintain his position. I will not be the one who elects the extreme right in the Pays d’Aix,” he said. -he indicated after thanking the voters.
