On Sunday, June 30, bad weather caused waves of over 1.80m on the Côte d’Azur coast. Two people lost their lives.

Last weekend, two people lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea near Nice. Dangerous waves invaded the coastline from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. this Sunday, June 30. The prefect of Alpes-Maritimes has advised against swimming because of the risks, according to France Bleu.

In the morning of that day, the body of a man in his thirties was found. He was pulled towards the sea wall of the port of Nice. The firefighters were unable to resuscitate him, indicates Nice morning.

In the afternoon, a 40-year-old man was found dead on Ponchettes beach in Nice. He was unconscious when the firefighters arrived. The rescuers tried to resuscitate him but he did not survive.

He survived thanks to his friends

A little further away, at Opera beach, a 22-year-old was also trapped by the waves. Fortunately, he survived thanks to his friends who brought him back to the beach. He was transported to Pasteur hospital.

The red flags were raised at the end of the day by the first aid stations and the beaches were evacuated.
