Every year, November 20 marks International Children's Rights Day. A date celebrating the adoption in 1989 of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. In , where 4,000 children are placed under the responsibility of the Departmental Council and where 90 million euros are invested in this area each year, this anniversary is transformed into an entire week of events organized in partnership with 27 committed associations.

The event began with the Children's Forum, combining fun activities and educational workshops. This will be followed by round tables, conferences and shows organized across the region, raising awareness among children and adults of the fundamental rights of children: to be protected, educated, fed and listened to.

“Prepare for the future”

Among the new features, the event Youth in the spotlightscheduled for November 27, will give a voice to young people entrusted to child welfare through short films retracing their journeys. Elyas, a young man with a history marked by personal challenges and participant in the event, testifies: “ I had no reason to have plans. But the day I realized I could build something, everything changed. The older I get, the more I become aware of the importance of these organizations that help young people, who are the future of a country. » Now passionate about trail running and with an exemplary track record, he hopes to inspire his peers. Françoise Laurent-Perrigot, president of the Gard Departmental Council, concludes: “ By supporting children in their learning and freedoms, we are building a more united and inclusive society. »
