The wave of storms caused very serious accidents in Aube this weekend.

Three passengers in a car were killed after a tree fell on them.

In Italy, but also in Switzerland, a landslide swept away several residents.

Some drivers had to give up driving due to the violence of the storm. On Saturday evening in Troyes, gusts of up to 107 km/h were recorded. A few kilometres away, on a departmental road in Rosnay-l’Hôpital (Aube), three people were killed by a falling tree. On Saturday evening, they were inside their car, stationary, when a tree broke and crashed onto their vehicle.

A 67-year-old man and two women, aged 77 and 78, were found dead. The fourth occupant was taken to Troyes hospital as an emergency. Yesterday, violent storms hit a large part of France. With 32,497 lightning strikes recorded in 24 hours, it was the most lightning-struck day of the year. There had been rain, but also a lot of hail, such as in Indre and Meuse, where motorists were surprised by the size of the hailstones.

This violent episode also struck our European neighbours. In Switzerland, four people died, three of them swept away by a landslide. In Italy, above a village of 200 inhabitants, a waterfall turned into a torrent of mud, but caused no casualties.
