Certainly, the voters of the third constituency put Boris Vallaud in the lead of the votes in this first round of the legislative elections with 37.10% of the votes (26,235 votes). However, it cannot be said, this Sunday, June 30, that tradition is respected in this bastion of the left since 1978, which has continued to strengthen under the era of Henri Emmanuelli. Only 1,070 votes separate the outgoing deputy and the candidate of the National Rally, Sylvie Franceschini, who won 35.59% of the votes (25,165 votes).

Jordan Bardella’s party, which had won 18.78% in the 2022 legislative elections, has made an unprecedented breakthrough.

In several municipalities, the RN candidate even came out on top, notably in Aire-sur-l’Adour, where she obtained 35.49% against 34.91% for Boris Vallaud. In the other former cantonal capitals, the scenario was the same: 33.56% in Amou (33.33% for Boris Vallaud), and 34.32% in Pouillon (33.48% for the outgoing MP). In Tartas, she took an even bigger lead with 39.94% against 33.62% for Boris Vallaud.

50% in Mugron

Only in Mugron, Henri Emmanuelli’s stronghold, is Boris Vallaud far ahead, with 50% of the vote, with Sylvie Franceschini collecting 32.55%. In Saint-Sever, the town where the New Popular Front candidate has his office, he is ahead with 37.71% against 32.28% for the National Rally.

New Popular Front and National Rally are therefore neck and neck in this constituency anchored on the left and until now impregnable. Sylvie Franceschini offers an explanation: “The people of Landes were disappointed by Mr. Vallaud,” she reacts. “Mr. Emmanuelli was a great man, who did a lot for his territory, unlike his successor who is making friends with LFI. The people of Landes want to preserve their territory, their culture, their traditions and I am fighting for that.”

“I extend my hand”

Now engaged in a duel, the two candidates are already sharpening their weapons. “If I am in the lead in the first round, it is not by chance either, it is because the voters have known me for seven years. I met thousands of Landes people, I received hundreds of them in my office,” emphasizes Boris Vallaud. Who is already launching a tackle at her opponent in the second round: “She is a candidate whose face and voice the Landeses know neither the face nor the voice, who fled the debates, who refused to respond to the concerns of farmers. It is not available to voters in this campaign, it obviously will not be available afterwards. »

“I extend my hand because I know that there is a lot to mend in this society”

The fact remains that the votes of the other candidates in this constituency, notably Tom Gillet Duffrechou (Ensemble!, 16%) and Brice Saint-Cricq (Les Républicains, 7.8%), will also carry weight in the second round, depending on the basket they fall into. “Marie-Laure Lafargue and Jean-Marc Lespade said they were withdrawing in favor of the Republican candidates Geneviève Darrieussecq and Lionel Causse,” continues Boris Vallaud. “I expect the Republican candidates who were running in this third constituency for the presidential majority or Les Républicains to clearly say today that they support me. I am reaching out because I know that there is a lot to mend in this society.”

A call heard by Tom Gillet Duffrechou, who totaled 11,310 votes (16%). He declared on Sunday evening “all Republicans must react. I am obviously calling for a barrier to the far right. » But not by Les Républicains: “We can never call to vote for candidates on the left or supported by the left because that would amount to endorsing the words of Mr. Mélenchon, who again this week claimed the right to laugh at death of a police officer, gendarme or soldier, because there, the red line is crossed. »
