In Moule, in Guadeloupe, a white march took place on Saturday November 23, in honor of the young 26-year-old Guadeloupean soldier, beaten up in front of the Le QG nightclub in Besançon (Doubs), on November 7. After his death on November 13 at the Bisontin University Hospital, around 250 people gathered to pay tribute to him.

Merick Mathoré was assigned to 19e engineering regiment of the town of Bisontine and was originally from the district of Barthel, in the Grands-Fonds du Moule. He was violently attacked on the night of November 7 to 8 by three men outside the nightclub.

Five days later, the young man died from his injuries; he had suffered serious brain damage which resulted in “major cerebral edema”, according to the public prosecutor of Besançon, Etienne Manteaux.

All three suspects have been identified. Two of them are in pre-trial detention, the last is actively sought by the police.

The two arrested suspects explained that this young soldier had “attempted a seductive approach” to a young girl, the girlfriend of the man on the run, by asking her for her mobile number twice, “which displeased the boyfriend,” reported Etienne Manteaux.
