In the 4th constituency of Haute-Garonne (the only one entirely in Toulouse, which goes from the Capitole to Mirail, passing through Saint-Cyprien), where seven candidates were in the running (including one who withdrew from the race just before the vote). François Piquemal is re-elected in the first round, according to still provisional results. The elected representative of France Insoumise, invested by the New Popular Front, is the only deputy from Haute-Garonne to be re-elected this evening.

Here are the provisional results in the 4th constituency of Haute-Garonne (entirely in Toulouse, southwest of the city):

  • Francois Piquemal (LFI, New Popular Front): 53.52% (re-elected)
  • Margaux Pech (Renaissance, presidential majority): 26.52%
  • Audrey Larregle (National gathering): 15.93%
  • Arthur Cottrel (Reconquest): 1.93%
  • Jacem Delmas (Bastir Occitanie) : 1.53%
  • Patrick Marcireau (Workers’ Struggle): 0.57%
  • Paul Cazals (NPA-Revolutionaries): 0.00%

Paul Cazals (NPA-Revolutionaries) having filed and then withdrawn his candidacy, he did not receive any votes.

Who is François Piquemal?

The LFI-Nupes MP took over from Macronist Mickaël Nogal in 2022 in the only constituency entirely in Toulouse, which covers the southwest of the Ville Rose (it goes from the Capitole to Mirail, passing through Saint-Cyprien). He has since established himself as one of the main faces of the left in the Ville Rose, and will be hard to dislodge.

While he had garnered 46.54% of the votes in the first round in 2022, François Piquemal has this time crossed the threshold.

An MP keen on housing (and space)

François Piquemal, who was a history-geography and literature teacher at the Mirail vocational high school, was also once a figure of the Right to Housing association in Toulouse. Elected in 2020 to the Capitole on the Archipel Citoyen list, he resigned from the Toulouse city council in November 2022, after his accession to the Palais Bourbon.

In the Assembly, MP Piquemal was involved in several sectors of activity: housing, unsurprisingly, but also in other, more unexpected areas, such as space. The parliamentarian was in fact a member of the Defense Committee, as well as the local authorities delegation.
