Legislative elections 2024: instructions for 1st round in Loiret

In Loiret, 41 candidates are in the running for this first round legislative elections. There were 77 of them, 2 years ago, for the last legislative elections. It is in the 2nd constituency, that of Orléans-West, that they are the most numerous: 9 in total. To qualify for the second round, candidates must cross the threshold of 12.5% of those registered. According to this mathematical rule, the greater the participation, the easier it is to achieve it. For example, if participation is around 50%, you must obtain 25% of the votes cast to qualify. If it exceeds 65%, 19% will be enough. In fact, this could favor triangular ones, including in Loiret.

High participation or not?

Now, what will participation be like this year? In the legislative elections of 2017 and 2022, participation in Loiret was around 50%. But if we go back to 1997, the last time that France had early elections following a dissolution, Loiretain voters turned out en masse with a 69% turnout in the first round. In the Loiret, polling stations open this Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. except in Orléans and Ingré where voting will still be possible until 7 p.m.
