“We are here to dream”: immersion in the heart of the treehouses perched in our Ardennes forest

The high season begins under the sun. The Rensiwez estate, in the Ardennes, welcomes visitors in summer and winter in high-end cabins, perched in the trees. Our team discovered this magical and unique place…

Who has never dreamed of breathing the fresh air, comfortably installed in a cabin in the middle of the trees? Immersing oneself in breathtaking nature is in any case the wish of Olivier Berghamns, founder of Cabanes de Rensiwez. A dream that has become reality.

We are here to dream and relax

The entrepreneur founded a timeless estate of around twenty hectares, in the heart of the Parc Naturel des 2 Ourthes, which houses 32 luxurious cabins. Wood from floor to ceiling, a copper bathtub, a cozy armchair and a rustic style. These mini-houses have everything to please. Each cabin will tell its own story“, adds Olivier. “What we try to do compared to a more traditional architecture is to break the codes and leave much more room for creativity and imagination. We are here to dream and to relax. Rationality, we leave it at home“.

It is a dream to live in nature where we have time to connect with ourselves and with others. We reconnect with nature and with the seasons“, explains the latter proudly.

To bring this timeless experience to life, but with all the modern comforts, there are around twenty people working behind the scenes. Breakfast baskets, cleaning, logistics: the team walks the hundreds of steps that separate the cabins every day in order to maintain them, whatever the weather. It’s physical. It’s not like a hotel where you stay in a corridor to do all the rooms.“, confides Amal Nejraoui, housekeeping manager at Cabanes de Rensiwez. “At the same time, we work and at the same time, we enjoy nature“.

A child’s dream

These cabins with their false rustic air, all comfort, were born from Olivier’s imagination: “I think that like many children, I spent time building lots of huts of all kinds. We always keep a corner of our childhood deep inside us.“.

In 2012, Olivier built a first cabin on the banks of the river and then others, all different, hidden in the forest, perched at the top of a hill, almost suspended from the clouds… But setting up cabins in such a wild natural setting is not without impact on biodiversity.

It’s something that will last over time

A human presence is being placed in a place where it was not very present. (…) We have different measures to put in place depending on the different areas to highlight the biodiversity present.“, he said. The water mill, dating from the 18th century, has been renovated and produces two thirds of the electricity used on the site.

Cost of a cabin? Between 60 thousand and 200 thousand euros for the most important and special ones. Despite the significant price, these cabins are a profitable investment. Busy all year round, they appeal to more and more tourists. “It’s something that will last over time” says Olivier Berghamns.
