Fourteen communes in Vienne have established twinning cooperation with Burkina Faso. The general meeting of the association which brings them together was held on June 19, 2024, in Vouillé. Ten of the fourteen pairings were represented.
The tribute paid to André Brision, at the origin of the creation of the Association of Twinning Cooperations of Vienna (AJVC), and tireless fighter for solidarity between peoples, who died at the dawn of his 102nd birthday, was was an opportunity to recall the values of the association ” for which, reaffirmed the various speakers, We are all committed.”
“Help Africa, stressed Martine Robin-Gervais, the president of the AJVC, It is participating in the fight against the imbalances that threaten world peace, it is providing solutions to the process of increasing immigration, it is also fighting against racism, intolerance and withdrawal, it is finally encouraging and supporting efforts to move towards more democracy. Acting in Africa does not exclude, moreover, acting in our country.
Sanitation and waste treatment
Each twinning explained what it has put in place to support the projects underway in the twinned cities in Burkina. These achievements range from large-scale projects such as sanitation and solid waste treatment for nineteen communes in Burkina, to multiple solar drilling projects with water supply and standpipes, food aid for people internally displaced by conflict, to smaller but essential initiatives such as microcredits for women’s associations, educational support, market gardening, environmental protection.
The future of these twinning arrangements also depends on actions carried out in the department that promote rapprochement between peoples. The general assembly thus made it possible to highlight some of these flagship projects in Vienne, such as the Cinés d’Afrique festival, the Alimen Terre festival and other local initiatives. “which anchor our values in the here and now, together”.
