The work will last four years. Almost a year ago to the day, the municipality of Pontault-Combault (Seine et Marne) presented a new major project to residents. A project “which should affect nearly 25,000 people”, as confirmed by the mayor, Gilles Bord. Its name: the Green belt.

Construction in progress at the village hall

What is it about ? The green flow presented on June 28, 2023 should make it possible to create tree continuity in a heterogeneous urban fabric. An envelope of 10 million euros was voted to allow its creation within four years. “Throughout this 4 km route, it will be a question of renature, enhance and de-waterproof places “, promises the city’s first mayor, who assures that it “will literally change the face of the city.”

From east to west, the green corridor must connect the Etang du Coq, the Berchères wood and the Saint-Martin woods in particular. On its route, the latter will pass through different sectors of Pontault-Combault, including the Lafayette district, the Ocil, the town hall, and also the Jacques-Brel room. This is also where construction machinery has been working for several weeks. “Here, the idea is to create a forecourt, but also to create green parking spaces,” says Gilles Bord.

On site, around thirty trees will be planted, a path will be designed to allow the creation of a real path for pedestrians and for soft connections. Finally, the public lighting will also be replaced.

For this project, The city has set aside a budget of nearly 2 million euros1.86 million to be precise. Work in this area is expected to continue throughout the summer and part of the fall.

End of parking lots around the town hall

But the creation of the green flow does not stop there. After heading towards Ocil, the bulk of the work will be done in theThe town hall park and the Brie courtyard. The layout that you know today will be completely revised. “We are going to remove the two car parks that are currently in front of and behind the town hall,” summarizes Gilles Bord. The goal is really to give the space back to pedestrians.

Behind the town hall, a reflecting pool will be created and will bring a little freshness to the park. On the Avenue de la République side, the parking lot at the entrance will give way to green spaces. “We are going to demineralize the place as much as possible,” says the Pontellois-Combalusien, who explains that the parking spaces removed will be transferred to the surrounding area.

Demineralization will also be the key word in the courtyard of the Briarde farm. The place will be planted with trees and small flower beds will emerge. “It will be unrecognizable,” assures the elected official. As with the developments in the Ocil district, it will be necessary to wait until the beginning of 2025 for this important stage to begin on the town hall site. The end of the development work on the green corridor is hoped for by 2028Cyclists and pedestrians will then have a new playground!
