You will surely come across Food Bank volunteers this weekend at store entrances. The association organizes its national collection on Friday November 22 and Saturday November 23, as precariousness increases. In Haut-Rhin, the number of beneficiaries has increased from 20 to 25% in recent yearsto exceed 30,000 currently. Around 1,000 volunteers are mobilized for two days in around a hundred locations in the department.
Donations down in recent months
“Today, the massive influx requires us to always be able to collect a certain number of foodstuffs to be able to meet demandexplains Cyrille Thomas, director of the Haut-Rhin Food Bank. Today, we have a certain stability over the year, even if we tend to see that in recent months donations have declined. It's true that stability in the face of an increase in the number of beneficiaries simply means that we are unfortunately giving less to each person currently”continues Cyrille Thomas, who hopes to collect more than 200 tons of donations during this new national collection, as in previous years.
The Food Bank is looking for basic necessitiessuch as pasta, rice, cans or even hygiene products. The association distributed around five million meals last year in Haut-Rhin, that is to say 2,500 tonnes of products.
